The clock is ticking, the light is radiating, voices are heard in the down chapel of the SMA Generalate house, usually silent during the summer.
These are voices of the members involved in the Inter-Congregational Ongoing Formation (ICOF): General council of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Apostles (OLA), of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritan Fathers), of the Missionaries of Africa (White fathers), of the Missionary Sisters Our Lady of Africa (MSOLA), and of the Society of African Missions (SMA).

Let’s face it, life can get busy: We are constantly engage with work, pastoral, meetings, community, family, hobbies, and everything in between. We always have something to do and this can make it challenging to find time to follow a good program or more to find time for reading, and reading particularly an SMA book. I am sure you will agree with me.

If Pope Francis has been consistent about anything, it is his stance on immigration. In his third and last of the three-day visit to Hungary, the Holy Father bravely spoke at Mass about the need to be “open doors”. Inspired by the gospel of St. John (10:1-10) during the fourth Sunday of Easter also known as the good shepherd or vocation Sunday, the 86-year-old bishop of Rome focused on the aspect of Jesus as the “door that lets the flock in and out and find pasture.”

Maya Angelou, one of the iconic African American prolific writers and a poet once said, “Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.” Yes, it is a heart full of gratitude that moved Fr. Piere Richaud, SMA on Saturday 4th March during a Thanksgiving mass at the church of Saint-Pierre-Eynac.

"Mission departing from Africa" was the theme of the exchanges and reflections that were at the heart of the continental meeting of the Missionary Societies of Apostolic Life that ended on Friday 21 April at the Paul Pellet Center in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. For four days, the participants discussed the challenges and opportunities that the increase in African vocations in these congregations represents for the Church.

On Holy Wednesday at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, more than two hundred priests, permanent deacons with their wives, consecrated virgins, hundreds of faithful and a number of catechumens gathered around bishop Olivier de Germay the archbishop of Lyon to celebrate Chrism Mass. During the celebration, the holy oils used throughout the coming year for sacraments and rituals were blessed and consecrated.
